Cyber range

OptikRange

A modular (Built from separate parts, so parts can be added or changed.) cyber range (A practice network where people learn to attack and defend safely.): a practice network where learners run attacks safely, follow them step by step, and watch the alerts they raise in a SIEM (Security information and event management. The system that collects security alerts and logs in one place.).

For people who practise finding attacks, and for the people who teach them.

A practice network where an attack runs in five numbered steps, from reconnaissance to data theft, and a SIEM panel beside it that shows an alert for each step

One attack scenario, in five steps

Learners start an attack scenario and follow it from the first step to the last.

  1. Reconnaissance

Looking for targets on the network.

  2. Brute force

Guessing passwords many times, until one works.

  3. Credential dump

Copying the passwords stored on a machine.

  4. Lateral movement

Moving from one machine to the next inside the network.

  5. Data theft

Taking the data out of the network.

What it does

A simulated company network

Attack scenarios run on a simulated company network, so learners can attack it safely.

Alerts in a SIEM

Alerts appear in the SIEM as the attack happens.

Step by step

A screen to start each step and follow its progress.

Investigate and rebuild

Learners investigate the alerts, link the logs and rebuild the attack.

Your own scenarios

Learners write and publish their own scenarios in JSON (A plain text file format for data.).

Four levels

Scenarios at four levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert.

Four steps from beginner to intermediate, advanced and expert, with a learner on the way up, and a scenario card written in JSON that a learner can publish

Four levels, and scenarios of your own

Scenarios run at four levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert. A learner can start low and move up.

Learners can also write their own scenarios in JSON, and publish them.

Who it is for

Students

Cybersecurity students, and people who want to work in a SOC (Security operations centre. The team that watches for attacks and responds to them.).

Analysts in training

Beginner and intermediate SOC analysts, and trainees.

Instructors

Security instructors, and the staff who run practice labs.

Police

Teams that run security awareness sessions.

OptikRange and Visiminds Learn

Three learners at screens work through scenario cards, and a trainer points to a board of topics: cybersecurity, cyber forensics, secure coding and databases

Courses from Visiminds Learn

OptikRange gives learners a practice network. For courses, there is Visiminds Learn, our training service.

Visiminds Learn training is hands-on: people practise with real tools on real scenarios.

  • Courses in cybersecurity, cyber forensics, secure coding and databases
  • More than 100 tools for cybersecurity and forensics
  • Support for your people after the course
